Roughly 25-30 years ago while Turkey had been exporting hazelnut to 32 countries, thanks to hard efforts, now exports not only in-shelled but also all processed types of hazelnut to 100 countries. The majority of exports are shipped to European Association countries. Almost 79 percent of total exports are directed to EU. Germany is the leading importer of processed and unprocessed Turkish hazelnuts with a share of approximately 27 percent of the total , followed by Italy, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Russia and Netherlands.

In addition to these, other overseas countries along with the Middle Eastern Countries emerge as potential markets for Turkish Hazelnuts.
In 2008, including processed kernels, Turkish total hazelnut export realized as 228.401 tons and 1.407.871.663 $ respectively.
Additionally, kernels are sized according to buyers’ requirements, with a difference of one or two mm, between nine and sixteen mm. Turkish government experts control and check exports to assure that hazelnuts conform to the above mentioned standards.

Examining Turkey’s processed hazelnut exports over the past five years, it may be observed that there is steady increase in export volume. Turkey intends on continuing to expend its export of processed hazelnuts, while at the same time introducing new processed forms to world markets.
